About
Hi!
I’m Davey Oil and I am the manager of Georgetown Zeitgeist, the cafe and soup palace that you are reading about right now! Nice to meet you!
Let’s see, what do people want to know when they visit a business website?
We are open from 7am to 2pm, Monday to Friday. Kind of a breakfast and lunch for Georgetown’s residents and workers sort of thing.
We are located at 5327 Denver Ave S, which is on the corner of Denver and Brandon. That’s two blocks West of Airport and Lucile, where the Airport overpass is, on the Georgetown side. That make sense? Here is a Google Map Link.
Red building, looks like a small house, on a triangular plot. Looks like this:
We fly the flag of Zeitgeist!
How did we get here?
Some legends say that the tiny structure on Denver and Brandon was built to be a switching house for the nearby railroad. Others claim it was built as a post office for Georgetown in the days of the prospector boom. Apparently by 1924 it was a residence of some sort, small as it is!
Jump to the montage:
1997- Zeitgeist Coffee opened by coffee and design obsessed entrepreneurs
2000 Leesa, (our boss) joins the team at Zeitgeist Coffee as a barista, and eventually the manager
2001 Davey Oil joins Zeitgeist as a cook, leaves and comes back a few times over the decades, before going on to start and run a couple of nonprofits and small businesses in the arts, mostly comics, and bikes
2006 (?) Georgetown Truckstop, a sweet little neighborhood favorite breakfast place opens in the tiny house
2010 LECT’s Soup Stop opens, serving fresh soup and donating to orgs that feed hungry people
2011- Zeitgeist Coffee adds local, fresh soup from LECT
2017 the impeccably named CRASH FISTFIGHT, a cook and heavy metal drummer joins LECT
2020 CRASH sends herself to culinary school, becomes a chef. Her soups become a neighborhood fixture in Georgetown
2022 Diaspora Coffee takes over, serving Yaupon coffee and Soup from Crash
2023 Leesa takes over Zeitgeist as the owner
2025 Zeitgeist takes over the soup shack when the Yaupon people move to Texas. Davey Oil and Leesa run into each other at Zeitgeist, catch up and explain to each other that she needs a manager and he, an experienced manager and small business starter, needs a job. They team up on the spot. Don’t most good coincidences happen at a cafe?
NOW Georgetown Zeitgeist lives! Joined by some coffee loving sweetheart artisans, Em, Nena and Matt, the good ship Georgetown Zeitgeist sails the seas of weekday breakfast and lunch service, serving up delicious and fresh local espresso, sandwiches and CRASH’S fresh soups!
Thanks for reading! See you in Georgetown!
