'Closer to Now' - New Works from 2003-2004

The new oils by NKO suggest a complex order emerging from chaos. Or the other way around. For what fist appears as rigidly formal gives way to something organic; a quiet explosion of forms generates itself from a center - a center or an origin now impossible to locate - a dislocation from the idea of a center.

As much as these paintings lure you into the labrinth (your eye attempts a path through the forms) a kind of vertigo occurs. Layers and depths coalesce and dissipate in what seemd a flat and stable landscape, undermining any reassurance of traditional narrative structure.

What finds expression here is an experience of what is inherently valid in deconstructionist thought and the distancing necessary to apply such concepts.
